Last Friday, the 8th grade chorus, Cantabile, 8th grade band, Ellington Jazz Band, and 7th & 8th Grade Orchestra went to the High Note Music Festival in Allentown, PA. The students played in their ensembles for adjudicators, who gave us helpful feedback, as well as superior and excellent ratings! The students performed extremely well, and I know that I'm very proud of their hard work this year! Afterwards, we all visited Dorney Park for a fun afternoon. See below for some pictures!

Congratulations to all students who participated in our spring concerts in choir, band, and orchestra! You all did a fantastic job, and we're very proud of your hard work! Here are four of our choir and orchestra members before the concert! :)
We had many students who were invited to participate in the Pennsylvania Music Educator's Association District 7th and 8th grade choral and orchestral festivals this year! They attended an all day workshop with a guest conductor, and performed for their friends and families at the end of the day. It was a great challenge, and a lot of fun too! As it's begun to warm up, my general music classes have enjoyed taking their learning outside of the classroom into the sun! We've been working on our guitar unit, in which students are learning chord progressions and new songs! We are so lucky in Wallingford Swarthmore to have such a robust string program! We had a fantastic time playing in our recent district string night. At this night, each school plays a couple of pieces, and then all 300 students who participate in strings district-wide join together onstage to play a final combined piece: pretty inspiring! Here are some pictures of us walking to rehearsal and performing!
Well, it's a wrap folks! What an incredible run! The 200 students in the cast and crew worked extremely hard to produce a full Broadway production (2.5 hour long show!) They did a great job!!! Here are some pictures of the highlights!
Last Thursday, one of our 7th grade students organized a benefit concert for the victims of Hurricane Harvey. She specifically raised money with this concert to benefit a theatre in Houston that lost many resources and had a great deal of damages. The performers did and outstanding job. Congratulations to Ella and all of the performers!
We've learned some chord progressions and guitar basics, and now we're writing our own songs in small groups. Some are silly and some serious, but all are well-thought-out and musical! Keep up the great work!
Every year, the entire school participates in a day of service. The 8th grade choir went to CADES, a home/school for students with special needs. They sang for the residents, and afterwards, they helped with art projects for their annual "Putt putt palooza!" It was a really great day for us to connect with others and help out!
We had a great time caroling through the halls and at the local nursing home today! We also stopped by the administration wing and the transportation office to share our thanks! We had a great time.
