Trimester two is off to a great start! We've been studying some traditional Afro-Caribbean drum beats as well as rhythmic notation. Today, the students worked on creating their own three-part drum beats and writing them down (notating them).

Today was our last day of the first trimester! We had a party in our general music classes to celebrate our time together! They did such amazing things this marking period! I'm very proud of them, and will miss this group!!
Students have been working diligently on their final projects in general music! The students formed their own bands and are playing instruments and singing in small groups, which requires a great deal of independence! Here are some pictures from their rehearsals, which they run themselves!
We’re finishing up our keyboard unit in general music! Students are currently using iPads to look up the chords to their favorite songs. Take a peek into what we’re doing! Next week, we’ll form our bands-we can’t wait!!
We had a great week during spirit week in chorus, orchestra, and general music! Here are a couple of pictures from Halloween, wacky Wednesday, and throwback Thursday!!
The 7th/8th grade orchestra has been working extremely hard on our repertoire for the winter concert! Here are some pictures from this week's rehearsal! Also, click below to view four of our 7th grade students playing "Treasure" by Bruno Mars as a Quartet!
AlWe've been working on a Garageband unit in 6th grade general music during this week and last week, and have been having a great time! Last week, the students composed ABA compositions on Garageband. They shared their compositions with each other on Friday. Click below to watch one group's presentation from 7th period! Their passion for their music shines through! :) Also, another one of our students in 8th period composed a song called "Mo Po" that is also a wonderful example of an ABA composition-click below to listen!
Today we took our club picture in Cantabile, our advanced 7th/8th grade chorus. Of course, we had a couple of funny pictures that did not go as planned as well! :) We're having a blast preparing our music; it's tricky, but the students are really demonstrating their musical independence as we sing in as many as 8 parts at a time!!
7th grade choir has been going well! The group is really positive and hard-working, and we always accomplish a great deal together and have fun! Below are some pictures of our time together in morning rehearsals and during our lunchtime lessons!
The 6th grade general music students have worked extremely hard to write their own songs that feature both vocals and their new guitar skills. They were asked to write at least 2 verses, and to include 2 chorus sections, as well as an introduction. They did a great job, and served as wonderful, supportive, audience members to their peers. Congratulations, 6th grade! Here are some sample compositions, attached as files below! :)
